Rajnath Drops Malayalam Movie Bombs In Kerala

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh appears to have quickly understood one thing about Kerala politics — if you want people’s attention, Malayalam cinema is one of the best entry points.

In his first election speech in Kerala on Wednesday, Singh smartly used references from three Malayalam films to connect with the audience while attacking the ruling establishment.

He referred to “Ponman” while speaking about the gold smuggling issue, used “Bramayugam” to highlight concerns over crime and drug abuse, and invoked “The Kerala Story” to caution voters, saying such a situation should never become a reality in the state.

With one speech, Singh blended cinema, politics and messaging, showing that in Kerala, even an election pitch may need a strong film reference to leave an impact.
