Yellow Getting Diluted In TDP?

Yellow Getting Diluted In TDP?

Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has been encouraging defections from other parties left, right and centre for the last couple of years hoping that it would strengthen the party and cause dent in the opposition parties.

However, what he has not realised is that these defections have resulted in dilution of not only the TDP’s philosophy, but also the colour of the party.

Right from its inception, the TDP had its own distinct identity with yellow colour. Quite often, Naidu had faced criticism from rival leaders like late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy that he was favouring only “pachcha chokkalu” (yellow shirts) in the implementation of governments. The media which favours the TDP has often been referred to as “Yellow media.”

But during the recent TDP executive meeting, Naidu noticed that the yellow colour in the TDP is fading out.

During the N T Rama Rao regime, the TDP meetings were shining with everybody right from party worker to top leaders wearing bright yellow shirts. But at the recent meeting, it was a mixture of various colours.

Many leaders were found wearing white shirts, indicating that they had defected from the Congress. Some others were sporting orange shirts. Some leaders like Galla Jayadev were even wearing suits.

This reflects the sad state of affairs in a disciplined party like the TDP. And with leader like Naidu himself was a defector from the Congress, one cannot expect a better situation in the party!
