Will Cong Have Pact With Naidu?

The Congress party is in a state of confusion as to what stand it should adopt with regard to forging an alliance with the Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh, in the wake of the ongoing deliberations across the country over building up an anti-Bharatiya Janata Party front.

Nationalist Congress Party president Sharad Pawar said TDP president and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu should set aside his ego and personal differences to join hands with the Congress to pull down the BJP government at the Centre.

Naidu would like to keep his cards close to his chest and will not reveal his plans, unless there is an open invitation from the Congress leadership.

However, the Congress leaders in Andhra Pradesh are of the view that Naidu, known for his opportunistic politics, will not hesitate to have an alliance with the Congress party, if it suits his interests.

APCC president N Raghuveera Reddy, in an interview to a media house, opined that Naidu might be considering the option.

“His aides are talking and they are in touch with the Congress. In their internal deliberations, they are discussing and want an alliance,” Raghuveera said.

The APCC chief also pointed out that the TDP leaders in Telangana were in touch with the Congress party for an alliance. But in Andhra, though the TDP leaders are ready, the grass root level workers are not.

“We cannot say what will happen in the next six months. Anything is possible,” he said.

However, Raghuveera made it clear that his party would not play any second fiddle to the TDP but would maintain its identity.

“We shall continue to fight against the anti-people policies of the Naidu government. The chief minister has been misleading the people in the last four years with his manipulations to evoke their sentiments and emotions,” he said.

He alleged that the TDP government had been wasting taxpayers’ money every year for its own publicity, he said and demanded that it release a white paper on the amount spent on Nava Nirmana Deeksha till date.

“The APCC would release a charge-sheet on TDP misrule in last four years and observe June 8 to 15 as ‘Praja Vanchana Varam,” Raghuveera said.
