We are firm on Kapus' welfare, says Jagan

Pittapuram (East Godavari dist): Lambasting Chandrababu Naidu, TDP and his friendly media for distorting his statement, YSR Congress President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has resolutely said that he stands for reservations to Kapus and has announced a bounty for the communities welfare while the State Government has cheated them by going back on poll promises.

"What I have told at Jaggampet public meeting was that the issue of reservations to Kapus is in the purview of Central government due to the verdict of Supreme Court and assured that I will allocate Rs 10,000 crores for Kapu Corporation unlike Chandrababu Naidu who had promised to allocate Rs 5,000 cores but had just given a pittance," the Leader of Opposition said while addressing a public meeting as part of the Praja Sankalpa Yatra here on Tuesday.

It is Chandrababu Naidu who has cheated the people, more so the Kapu community and shamelessly has been calling me a cheat for calling a spade a spade.

Despite knowing well that there has been agitations going on nation-wide and the Supreme Court verdict has been in force so that the quota cannot exceed 50 % in any state, he had announced reservations to the Kapu community in government jobs and education institutions.

After winning the election he forgot the promise like all other promises and when there was a stir by Kapu community, it was Jagan Mohan Reddy who had expressed solidarity with the community elders and when there was a huge response, Chandrababu Naidu had come down and hurriedly passed a resolution in the Assembly and sent to the Centre even before the Manjunath Committee has given its final report.

While Chandrababu Naidu has announced that he would allocate Rs 5,000 for the Kapu Corporation but had in fact released only Rs 1,340 crore. I had announced that Kapu Corporation would get Rs 10,000 crore for a period of five years. Now the community elders and others should decide as to who is a cheat, he said.

We are firm on the reservation issue to Kapus and are not in the habit of taking a U-turn and it is Chandrababu Naidu who has been cheating the community, he said.

The four year term of TDP is laden with corruption and the local works too were not completed as the state’s priorities lies elsewhere.

Fees reimbursement would be implemented in the right earnest and professional courses would be made within the reach of all students of the weaker sections besides allocating Rs 20,000 towards hostel and mess charges. This apart Amma Vodi would be taken up by depositing Rs 15,000 annually into the mother’s for sending her two children to school  as illiteracy rate has been 32 % and it should be brought down drastically, he said.
