Venkayya Naidu is an excellent gambler. He knows which horses to back at the right time and this has ensured him a stable and rewarding career in the BJP.
When Vajpayee was at the helm, he backed him to the hilt and did the same with LK Advani. And when he sensed that the Modi wave within the BJP was inevitable, he sided with Modi and Amit Shah.
But surely, there are limits to a person’s sycophancy? Rejecting the demands for the resignations of Sushma Swaraj, Vasundhara Raje and Shivraj Chauhan, Venkayya said that Sushma Swaraj was a national asset and Modi (Narendra) was god’s gift to the nation.
Modi himself on a foreign tour had said that prior to his becoming the Prime Minister; Indians were ashamed of being born in India.
As for Sushma Swaraj, she came to the rescue of a person who was a fugitive and wanted in India for serious economic crimes. These then are the gift and assets of the nation, according to Venkayya.
But as far as the people of Andhra Pradesh are concerned, he is surely god’s curse on them.
