TRS calls off House protests, now AIADMK holds key

Apparently realising that its continuous stalling of the Lok Sabha proceedings and not allowing the no-confidence motion against the National Democratic Alliance government coming up for debate in the House, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi on Monday decided to change its strategy.

At a meeting of the TRS parliamentary party held at Pragathi Bhavan under the leadership of party president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, the TRS MPs decided not to stall the Lok Sabha proceedings on Tuesday but continue to register their protest.

“We shall not storm the podium but will remain in our seats to register our protest,” TRS MP B Vinod Kumar said.

Since March 5, the TRS, along with the AIADMK, has been stalling the proceedings by staging protests in the well, demanding that the Centre take up the demand for increase in Muslim reservations.

As a result of the TRS protests, the Speaker has been disallowing the no-confidence motions.

The meeting felt that the strategy had boomeranged, as it led to the talk that the TRS was indirectly supporting the BJP.

“We have realised that it has created wrong apprehensions among the people that we were preventing the no trust motion purposely,” Vinod said.

The TRS MP said they would participate in the debate on no-trust motion and would explain their demand for increase in reservations for Muslims.
