Telugu voters defeated BJP in Gorakhpur?

Why did Bharatiya Janata Party lose the by-elections to Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh?

Particularly the loss in Gorakhpur, which was represented six times by chief minister Yogi Adityanath, was very huge for the BJP. So, who voted against the BJP in his home turf?

Well, according to Telugu Desam Party legislator G V Anjaneyulu, the BJP had paid a very heavy price in Gorakhpur for betraying the people of Andhra Pradesh by denying special category status to their state.

“There are large number of Telugu voters in Gorakhpur. Majority of the voters from north-coastal Andhra had gone to Gorakhpur in search of livelihood. That is why, the impact of the Centre ditching the people of Andhra Pradesh was clearly visible in the by-elections,” he said.

The TDP legislator said the same result would be repeated in Karnataka assembly elections, too.

“There are lakhs of Telugu people in Karnataka, too. And they would teach a fitting lesson to the BJP in the assembly elections,” he warned.
