It looks like Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy is strongly lobbying for the hot seat once the Telangana State is formed.
Jaipal Reddy met AICC president Sonia Gandhi on Monday amidst speculations that he had thrown his hat into the ring for the Chief Minister post in the newly-formed Telangana State.
He appealed to her to complete the process of formation of Telangana during the ensuing monsoon session of Parliament.
He is learnt to have discussed the latest political situation in the State including Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy's statements against the Congress High Command's decision.
He told media later that no strings should be attached to the Telangana State and it should be independent like other States in the country.
He also opposed the proposal to make Hyderabad a Union Territory and also said that Bhadrachalam should remain part of Telangana.
Jaipal also made it clear that no constitutional amendment was required to form Telangana State. He said the Centre could continue the implementation of Article 371 (D) in both Telangana and residual State of Andhra Pradesh.
He expressed confidence that the Telangana Bill would be introduced during the monsoon session of Parliament beginning on December 5.
