Owaisi Says No To Common Capital

The MIM President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has made it clear that his party would not accept the idea of making Hyderabad the common capital of Telangana and residuary Andhra Pradesh.

"Only for the sake of administrative convenience, the residuary Andhra Pradesh can use infrastructure facilities of Khairatabad limits in the city for a temporary period," Owaisi said after meeting the Group of Ministers (GoM) in Delhi.

The GoM has been constituted to go into the issues arising out of the state's bifurcation. The representatives of the recognised parties of the state are meeting the GoM on Tuesday and Wednesday.

While reiterating his party's stand in favour of keeping the state united, Owaisi said that if division was inevitable then Hyderabad should belong to Telangana and there should be a separate capital city for Seemandhra region.

Immediately, there should be division of AP High Court.

The MP also opposed the proposal to hand over the law and order of Hyderabad city to the Centre. He said such a move would be against the constitution.

Owaisi poo-pooed the statements of Seemandhra leaders raking up fears of security and safety for Seemandhra people in the city and elsewhere in Telangana region.

"It is the minority community that will face insecurity in Telangana state because of the Sangh Parivar organisations are likely to get strengthened," he said.

He also demanded that Urdu be made one of the official languages of Telangana state. Owaisi attacked the Telangana Congress for agreeing to making Hyderabad the common capital.

"They are mortgaging the interests of the Telangana people," he lamented.

Owaisi said that his party has no objection if the entire Rayalaseema region is merged with the Telangana to form a greater Telangana state.
