Owaisi Blames 'Pakoda Politics' for Padmaavat Protests

Hyderabad: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has trained his guns on the BJP over the violence in the wake of controversial film Padmaavat’s release.

“It’s nothing but pakoda politics being practised by the BJP,” Owaisi said, mocking a statement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a recent TV interview.

“In Davos, the PM said we have removed red tape and laid the red carpet. But the PM and his party has laid a red carpet for people who are indulging in violence. Small children are hurt, public property is being burnt. It’s happening only because of tactical support of the BJP.”

Owaisi added that the protesters were mostly “jobless youth, with no work”.

Accusing the PM of double standards, Owaisi said, “His 56-inch chest is not there for Rajputs. It’s only for Muslims. Look at their bias. Without putting it in public domain, without asking anyone, they are bulldozing Triple Talaq bill. But for this film, the name has been changed, scenes are cut to satisfy sentiments. What kind of politics is being done? There is no rule of law.”

Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film, which was originally titled Padmavati, got mired in controversy as soon as the filmmaker started shooting for the project and things took an ugly turn after the first trailer of the movie was released last year.

Padmaavat features Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in the lead roles.
