Naidu's Double Standards On Courts!

Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu appears to be of the view that nobody should question his decisions, even if they are against the court directions.

Immediately after the single bench of the High Court giving interim directions to Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao asking him to allow YSR Congress party MLA R K Roja into the House, Naidu reportedly told his Cabinet colleagues that the High Court had no jurisdiction in the decisions of the Assembly, which is supreme in all legislative affairs.

He observed that the court had only pointed out the procedural lapses in suspending Roja but not questioned the authority of the Speaker.

In the same breath, the Naidu government challenged the single bench order in the division bench. It is surprising as to how the division bench can interfere in the issues of the Assembly when the single bench cannot.

“If Naidu feels the court has no jurisdiction in the Assembly affairs, why did he move the same court again? This is ridiculous,” said YSR Congress party spokesman Ambati Rambabu.

He also wondered how the Assembly can discuss the High Court order on Roja.

“If the Assembly has to take a decision on Roja based on majority opinion, does the Speaker order hanging of Roja on the pretext that majority members want it? In any case, the TDP has the majority and its word will prevail,” he pointed out.
