Is Telugu Desam Party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao planning to contest from two assembly constituencies on the lines of Bharat Rashtra Samithi president and Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao?
The answer is yes, according to a speculative report published in a section of English media.
The report said KCR’s decision to contest from Gajwel as well as Kamareddy assembly constituencies to avoid any risk has inspired Naidu to take such a decision.
Though KCR has developed Gajwel constituency like never before in developmental and welfare programmes, he has still chosen to contest from Kamareddy because he doesn’t want to take any risk in the wake of growing anti-incumbency.
Similarly, though Kuppam has been a stronghold of Naidu for decades and he is putting all efforts to retain the seat in the coming elections, he does not want to take any risk because if he is defeated in Kuppam by any chance, it will be a big setback for him and the party.
It may be recalled that the ruling YSR Congress party has taken as a matter of prestige to defeat Chandrababu in Kuppam.
The ruling party has decimated Naidu’s dominance in Kuppam by winning 90 percent of the local body and municipal elections.
So, Naidu is contemplating contesting from some other safe constituency in Guntur and Krishna districts, while putting in the best efforts to retain Kuppam.
He is said to have asked his party leaders to look for a safe seat in these two districts, reports said.
The reports said during the last assembly elections, there was a strong rumour that Chandrababu may shift to Tirupati and field his son Nara Lokesh from Kuppam. But Lokesh has chosen Mangalagiri and lost.
If the plan works out, both Naidu and Lokesh would be contesting from adjacent constituencies in Guntur district.
