Naidu Beats Retreat, Goes Soft On Centre!

Within hours of launching a broadside against the Centre for trying to stall the fresh tenders for Polavaram project works, Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister beat a retreat on Friday and decided to go back to his soft approach.

Naidu indicated this at the meeting of Telugu Desam Legislature Party at Amaravati in the afternoon. He told the party MLAs not to make any hasty or aggressive comments against the Centre on Polavaram project.

“Let us not look the Polavaram issue in political angle and get into confrontation with the BJP. Let us maintain restraint and at the same time, bring pressure on the Centre to get our works done,” he said.

The chief minister said there was no question of stalling the Polavaram works at any cost, just because of the objections raised by the Centre.

“The works are going on at a brisk progress. Any halt of works at this stage would prove costly for the project. Under any circumstances, we have complete the project during our regime,” Naidu said.

He said he had submitted a status report to the Centre on the Polavaram works.

“It is the responsibility of the Centre to see that the project is completed on time. We need to constantly pursue with the Centre to get the required assistance to the Polavaram project, instead of adopting confrontationist approach,” the chief minister added.
