Telangana Joint Action Committee chairman Prof M Kodandaram, who has been waging a lone battle against the Telangana Rashtra Samithi government without much public support, has got a new lease life with the denial of permission for his dharna at Indira Park on Thursday.
Analysts say the agitation by Kodandaram against the new land acquisition bill would have fizzled out in a day or two as he lacks resources and financial support to continue agitation for long. Since the TRS government has anyhow enacted the legislation with its brute majority, it could have gone ahead with the land acquisition.
“At the most, Kodandaram could have addressed a rally and spoken against the bill. Since most of the media is in favour of the ruling party, he would not have got much coverage. As a further move, he might have moved the court, which he would do anyway.
By arresting his associates and allowing him to take up deeksha at his residence and creating a terror atmosphere at his residence, KCR has given a chance to Kodandaram to attract the attention of common people,” an analyst said.
Now, all the political parties are trying to take advantage of Kodandaram’s deeksha and step up the agitation.
“Since Kodandaram has got a spotless image, notwithstanding the allegations levelled by the TRS leaders, he enjoys credibility among the masses. If the agitation against land acquisition intensifies, the credit would definitely go to him,” he added.
