Jagan not to deny tickets to loyalists

For the last couple of days, there have been reports that political strategist Prashant Kishor, who joined as a consultant to the YSR Congress party recently, has indicated to party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy that he would have to drop at least 26 MLAs in the next elections, since their performance was far from satisfactory and they don’t have chances of winning the elections again.

This is learnt to have caused jitters in the party, as it was not clear who those 26 MLAs were. Apparently, everybody started feeling insecure about his or her seat.

However, Jagan reported told his party seniors not to make a big issue out of the suggestion given by Prashant, as he would not dump his loyalists just like that.

“May be there are not performing well, but they are after all our loyalists. Though as many as 21 MLAs defected to the ruling Telugu Desam Party, the remaining MLAs have been loyal to me and the party. How can we do injustice to them and deny tickets for the next assembly elections? Let us give them a chance to improve their performance in the next couple of years. If the MLAs are very bad, let us think over. Till such time, let us not even talk about the denial of tickets to any MLA,” Jagan is learnt to have said.

Apparently, Jagan has rejected Prashant’s suggestions, stating that the latter was not aware of the ground realities. He told the consultant that it would be difficult to replace loyalists with efficient people.

“I am confident that all the sitting MLAs would win the next elections, as the people are disgusted with the TDP rule and the YSRC would take advantage of it,” he said.
