It appears Telugu Desam Party MP from Narsaraopet Rayapati Sambasiva Rao has successfully managed to make strong friendship with Union water resources minister Nitin Gadkari these days.
The Union minister is said to be trying hard to get him retained in the Polavaram project, notwithstanding the firm decision of Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu to drop Transstroy, promoted by Rayapati.
While Naidu government served notices on Rayapati firm, Gadkari conveyed to Naidu that any such move would only delay the project works.
He also sent a team of Union water resources officials to Polavaram to inspect the works and the team strongly raised objections to Naidu’s attempts to increase the height of coffer dam and claiming it as the temporary main dam.
At the same time, Gadkari, who also holds the surface transport portfolio, appointed Rayapati as the chairman of District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) in Guntur. The committee will ensure that all precautions are taken to prevent accidents on national highways.
Though this committee does not have much significance on record, it only showed the proximity between Rayapati and Gadkari. It would also help Rayapti to make some quick money in the name of taking up projects to prevent road accidents, say sources.
