How About 'pushkaraalu' For Pattiseema?

How About 'pushkaraalu' For Pattiseema?

Surprised? One may wonder how we can conduct Pushkaraalu for a canal. But if one were to go by the statement of our great Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, there is no need to get surprised.

Naidu, who has decided to review the progress of Polavaram project works every Monday, by giving it a strange name “Pola Vaaram,” has come out with a brilliant idea.

He has decide to declare Polavaram right canal on which Pattiseema project has been constructed as “Pattiseema River.” He has come out with this idea during the Monday’s review meeting.

“Pattiseema is a huge canal discharging 50,000 cusecs of water. It is as good as a river. So, let us call it from now as Pattiseema river,” he ordered.

The irrigation department officials, who were shocked at the proposal did not dare to tell him that only 15,000 cusecs of water flows through Pattiseema canal (Polavaram right canal) and that, too, only during peak season; and that water has to be pumped to fields through motors, unlike a river which has natural flow of water.

But who will bell the cat? They blindly agreed to Naidu’s proposal. A couple of officials grumbled, wondering whether Naidu would come out with the idea of holding Pushkarams to this Pattiseema river every year.

Who knows, Naidu can order anything!
