Funds diversion in AP: GVL at receiving end!

Bharatiya Janata Party national spokesman and Rajya Sabha member G V L Narasimha Rao, who has been attracting a lot of media attention of late with his vitriolic attack on the Telugu Desam Party and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, was at receiving end for the first time on Tuesday.

His latest allegations on diversion of central funds to the tune of Rs 53,000 crore into personal deposit accounts of the officials boomeranged on him, as the TDP leaders came out strongly against him, exposing his ignorance.

Finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu wondered whether GVL had ever learnt what the PD accounts were and what they were meant for.

“There is absolutely no possibility for diverting money from the PD Accounts since every transaction will be monitored and highest transparency will be ensured in these accounts,” he explained.

He alleged that GVL was making criticism against the State government without possessing minimum knowledge.

“The PD accounts are nothing but a kind of financial accounts mentioned at Chapter-9 in the AP Financial Code. All the PD accounts are being opened in the name of the relevant departments, organisations and others, according to the APFC rules and guidelines. They cannot be opened on the individual names,” he pointed out.

There were 72,652 PD accounts in the undivided Andhra Pradesh and after the bifurcation, the residuary State got 43,474 PD accounts whereas Telangana State was allotted 29,236 PD accounts.

“Majority of these accounts belong to the local governments including panchayats, municipalities, Corporations and others. Their own resources, funds from the State and Central governments, Finance Commission funds and others will be deposited to the respective PD Accounts,” he said.
