Cong To Project A Woman As Telangana CM?

The Congress party in Telangana is planning to give a master stroke to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi by projecting a woman as the next chief minister of Telangana, if the Maha Kootami is voted to power.

Though the party might not make an immediate announcement in this regard, there is a possibility that it might spring a surprise saying a woman would become the chief minister, if the Congress comes to power with the support of other alliance partners.

“We have decided to give a representation to Congress president Rahul Gandhi asking him to consider a woman as the next chief minister, if the party comes to power in Telangana. There is every possibility that Telangana will get its first woman chief minister after the present elections,” All India Mahila Congress president Sushimita Dev told media on Thursday.

She said woman had faced a lot of injustice during the Telangna Rashtra Samithi regime, though they constituted more than 50 per cent of the total population.

“There is no women’s commission in Telangana; no woman in the Telangana state cabinet and hardly four women members got the TRS tickets in the present elections,” she said.

The Mahila Congress chief said Congress had come with several schemes for the empowerment of women.

“We shall provide financial assistance to self-help groups of women and also give six LPG cylinders a year to women free of cost,” she said.
