The TRS government has argued before the National Green Tribunal in Chennai that the strategic road development plan which proposes to ease traffic congestion in the city by construction flyovers across the city of Hyderabad is not anti-green.
Regarding the KBR park trees that would need to be cut down for the project, the government said that the trees would be replanted elsewhere and only a very few trees would actually be completely razed.
It may be recalled that following a series of agitations by the public, the National Green Tribunal had given a stay order on the project.
KCR may finally get the approval for the project. But it is important for him to realize whether he has the capability to execute the project within a stipulated deadline.
Already, commuters in Hyderabad are facing problems because of the Metro rail works which have been going on for ages.
Roads across the city have been dug up everywhere and traffic control has become chaotic in certain areas.
Nevertheless, it is an important project for the future of the city. Therefore, unless the Metro rail works are completed, it would be inadvisable for KCR to take up the road works and dig up the city all over again. That would be one huge mess.
