Can Chandrababu Naidu Escape Arrest This Time?

It looks like noose is tightening around Telugu Desam Party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu for his alleged irresponsible comments on the spread of N440K, a new variant of Coronavirus from Kurnool district, creating panic among the people.

Kurnool district superintendent of police Dr Kaginelli Fakeerappa told reporters that the police would follow the due procedure in dealing with the criminal case filed against Naidu on his statement.

“We shall serve him a notice on the TDP president as per the procedure and ask him to appear before the investigating officer within 7 days to give an explanation on his alleged statement. We shall do the investigation in a scientific manner,” Fakeerappa said.

On the possibility of Naidu’s arrest, the SP said the investigating officer would take an appropriate decision in this regard after giving due opportunity to the TDP president.

It may be recalled that the One-town police in Kurnool filed a criminal case against Naidu on Friday, following a complaint from Kurnool bar association president and advocate Subbaiah alleging that Naidu was spreading false information to create panic among the people.

Subbaiah pointed out a statement issued by Naidu that a new variant of Coronavirus – N440K – had spread across the state from Kurnool.

“This has caused undue panic among the people of the district, despite clarification from the medical and health department officials,” he said.

The cases against Naidu were registered under Section 155 and 505 (1)(b)(2) of the Indian Penal Code, besides Section 4 of the Natural Disasters Act of 2005, which is a non-bailable offence.
