Vizianagaram district has long been under the strong influence of the Pusapati royal family. For decades, the family has played a key role in politics.
Starting from PVG Raju, leaders like Anand Gajapathi Raju and Ashok Gajapathi Raju have served as MLAs, ministers, and even MPs.
Ashok Gajapathi Raju, in particular, has had a long political career and rose to the level of Union Minister. He is currently serving as the Governor of Goa.
Recently, land belonging to the Mansas Trust, owned by Ashok Gajapathi Raju’s family, was given for the proposed Aviation City project at Bhimunipatnam.
The event took place in the presence of Nara Lokesh. During the programme, Vizianagaram MLA Aditi Gajapathi Raju announced that their family would donate nearly 130 acres of land free of cost for the project.
Speaking on the occasion, Ashok Gajapathi Raju said his family has always been dedicated to public service. He described Lokesh as a member of his own family, even calling him like a son.
Ashok also mentioned that his family’s tradition of public service would be carried forward by the next generation.
With these developments, political circles are saying that Ashok Gajapathi Raju’s daughter has effectively joined Lokesh’s team.
Aditi Gajapathi Raju, who has already secured the Vizianagaram ticket twice, is keen to contest again in 2029. However, BC groups are also demanding the seat.
Analysts believe that if Aditi remains firmly aligned with Lokesh’s camp, it will be difficult for anyone to dislodge her from the Vizianagaram seat.
