Why did BJP turn so aggressive against Jagan?

All these days, the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders had been going a little soft towards YSR Congress party government in Andhra Pradesh led by chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Though the BJP leaders had been making criticism against Jagan government on certain policy issues, they did not make any personal comments against Jagan.

Except a couple of leaders like Y Satya Kumar and Kanna Lakshminarayana, the BJP leaders never made any allegations of corruption against the chief minister.

But suddenly the BJP leaders started making wild allegations against Jagan.

The way Union minister Anurag Thakur spoke at the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Sangharshana Yatra on Sunday, it is pretty evident that the BJP national leadership has changed its stand towards the Jagan government.

Thakur went to the extent of alleging that the Andhra Pradesh government was being run by liquor, sand and land mafia dons.

He even alleged that the Delhi liquor mafia has spread its tentacles even in Andhra Pradesh with the support of the Jagan government.

Stating that Andhra Pradesh is No. 4 in the country in terms of corruption with Telangana in the second position.

“We cannot allow the Jagan government to continue any long and it should be sacked immediately,” he said, adding that the Jagan government was swindling even the Central funds released to implement schemes like free tap water to every household.

The Union minister also raised his voice against Jagan’s three capitals’ plan.

“It is a Tughlaqian decision, which cannot be implemented,” he said.

BJP state president Somu Veerrajy, too, has hinted that there are going to be sensational developments in Andhra Pradesh in the next few months.

“The BJP national leadership is going to take some a major decision with regard to Andhra which is more dramatic than a thriller movie,” he said.

Indications from New Delhi are that the BJP is going to take more and more aggressive stand on Andhra Pradesh in the coming days.

The BJP hopes that it would get considerable votes and seats in the next assembly elections in AP and that will help the party consolidate its position in the long run, as has happened in Telangana.

“The BJP doesn’t mind Jagan returning to power for a second term, as it wants the TDP to be wiped out by 2029, so that it can occupy the seat of a principal opposition party by then. It will help the party capture power in the next five years,” a source in Delhi said.
