TTD chief gifts mangalasutrams to newly-wed couples

Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) chairman Y V Subba Reddy on Monday launched a unique programme of gifting golden mangalasutram, silk clothes and silver foot-rings (mettelu) to the newly-wed couples in Chandragiri assembly constituency in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh.

The programme was arranged by local MLA and Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) chairman Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy at Sri Venkateshwara Swamy temple at Tummalagunta village of Chandragiri mandal.

The TTD chairman presented the gifts to seven couples, who got married at the temple at Tummalagunta in the afternoon.

He said he was happy to launch the unique programme taken up by the MLA with the blessings of Lord Venkateshwara.

Subba Reddy said Bhaskar Reddy had been taking up such programmes in the constituency for the last 12 years to help the poor people.

This unique programme was above caste and politics and every youth from the constituency was eligible for the wedding gifts on behalf of the local MLA, he said.

Bhaskar Reddy said he had taken up the programme of helping the poor people to get married, with the inspiration from former chief minister of combined Andhra Pradesh late Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy.

Meanwhile, Subba Reddy said the TTD was mulling to gradually increase the number of sarva darshan tokens for the sake of common devotees.

It may be recalled that since last four days TTD has been issuing 2000 SSD tokens to devotees hailing from Chittoor district alone.

He appealed to devotees to observe all Covid guidelines of masks, sanitisation and social distancing for their own health safety as well others.
