Naidu begged me to contest from Kadapa: Byreddy

Youth leader of YSR Congress party and president Sports Association of Andhra Pradesh Byreddy Siddharth Reddy has admitted that he had indeed contemplated joining the Telugu Desam Party in the past, but had not taken the decision for various reasons.

In an interview to a media channel, Siddharth said it was true that he had thought of joining the TDP a few years before the last assembly elections and made an attempt to that effect.

“It did not materialise for some reasons. What is wrong in it?” he asked.

Siddharth recalled that it was the TDP leadership which had requested him to join the party.

“I did not prostrate before anybody anybody to join the party, as reported in some papers. If considering joining the TDP amounts to prostrating, let Chandrababu Naidu reveal how many times he had prostrated before my mother requesting her to convince me to join the TDP,” he pointed out.

He said Naidu had sent many TDP leaders to prevail upon him to contest from Kadapa assembly seat in 2009 and 2014.

“Some TDP leaders described me as a kid in politics. I don’t care about such comments. They won’t get anything with such comments, just like I won’t get anything by calling their leader old man,” the YSRC leader said.

There was a talk a few months back that Siddharth would quit the YSRC and join the TDP. There were reports that he had a meeting with TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh.

But Siddharth refuted the talk and rubbished the reports.

“Let them show evidence to prove that I had met Lokesh. I am a trusted lieutenant of YSRC and would be loyal to Jagan Mohan Reddy all through the life,” Siddharth added.

He reminded that he had been given a prominent posting by the chief minister and was also made in-charge of Nandikotkur.

“Having gained so much benefit from the party, why should I resign from the party? It is all bad propaganda,” he clarified.
