Liquor scam: YSRCP wants media ban in court room

The YSR Congress Party has requested the ACB Special Court in Vijayawada to restrict media access to courtroom proceedings related to the ongoing liquor scam case, which allegedly took place during the previous Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government.

Lawyers representing YSRCP leaders in the case appealed to ACB Court Judge P Bhaskar Rao to bar media personnel from entering the court to report on the arguments and counterarguments.

The request was made during the court appearance of several key accused in the Andhra Pradesh liquor scam case, including Peddireddy Mithun Reddy, Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, K Dhanunjaya Reddy, P Krishna Mohan Reddy, and Raj Kesireddy.

YSRCP lawyers expressed concern that sensitive courtroom information was being leaked to the media and misrepresented, prompting them to seek a ban on media coverage of the proceedings.

In response, Judge Bhaskar Rao questioned, “Whom should we blame for the leaks? And how do you propose we restrict media entry?” The lawyers did not provide a direct answer.

Meanwhile, the court adjourned several bail petitions related to the case.

Anticipatory bail hearings for D Vasudeva Reddy and D Satya Prasad were postponed to August 5. Hearings for Dhanunjaya Reddy, Krishnamahen Reddy, Balaji Govindappa, and Mithun Reddy were rescheduled to August 4.

The bail petitions of Balaji Kumar and Naveen Krishna will be heard on August 7, along with a separate petition concerning ₹3.5 lakh in cash seized during Balaji Kumar Yadav’s arrest.

The court dismissed the bail plea of Cherukuri Venkatesh.
