Jagan to hit the streets again on Oct 9

As announced, YSR Congress party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has decided to hit the roads to get the maximum traction among the people by leading the protest against the coalition government’s decision to complete medical colleges under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

The party has been opposing the move, insisting that the government itself should complete these colleges instead of handing them over to private entities. It has already staged protests across the state a few days ago.

Now, Jagan has decided to personally lead the agitation.

On October 9, he will tour Anakapalli district, inspect works at the Narsipatnam Medical College, and outline his future course of action.

Party leaders hinted that he may soon call for a state-wide protest, possibly centred in Rajahmundry or Nandyal.

Jagan reminded that his government had initiated 17 new medical colleges during his tenure, arguing that the present administration was trying to privatise at least 10 of them.

He accused the coalition government of weakening the Aarogyasri healthcare scheme and warned that if it pushed ahead with PPP, the YSRCP would reclaim the institutions once back in power.

The October 9 visit to Narsipatnam is expected to mark the start of a larger political battle over the future of medical education in the state.
