A 23-year-old student from Guntur, Navya Nelakuditi, passed away in the United States on April 9 while undergoing treatment following a serious car accident in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Navya, who was pursuing her Master’s degree in the US, was returning from an internship interview in Michigan when the car she was travelling in met with a major accident, leaving her critically injured.
According to a GoFundMe post shared by her aunt, Sirisha Nelakuditi, Navya was admitted to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. Despite undergoing three major surgeries, she succumbed to her injuries on April 9.
Describing her journey, the post stated that Navya, the daughter of humble farmers in India, had moved to the US last year to pursue higher education.
Her parents had invested everything they had in her studies, while she worked hard to build a career to support them.
The family has launched a fundraiser to cover funeral and repatriation expenses, and has raised more than $37,000 so far.
