Better package for Amaravati farmers!

The YSR Congress party government on Monday announced that the farmers of Amaravati who had given away their lands to the state government during the TDP regime under the Land Pooling Scheme would be compensated suitably in the form of a better package.

Minister for municipal administration Botsa Satyanarayana, who introduced the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority Repeal Bill, 2020, in the assembly, declared that the APCRDA is being abolished and in its place, a new authority in the name of Amaravati Metropolitan Region Development Authority (AMRDA) would be notified.

The new authority would honour and continue with all the agreements, financial committees and assets and liabilities, including loans and bonds.

Botsa said people who had surrendered their lands to the government under land pooling scheme would continue to get the benefits being given to them and even more.

Even those who had surrendered their assigned lands would also be given developed plots on par with those with patta lands.

The annuity amount of Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000 per acre being given to the farmers would be continued and the duration has been increased from 10 years to 15 years.

The annuity amount would also be increased by Rs 5,000 for wetlands and Rs 10,000 for drylands.

He said the government has decided to enhance the pension amount being given to the landless poor from Rs 2,500 to Rs 5000 per month per family, for the remainder of the tenure including an additional five years.

It remains to be seen how the farmers would react to this package. The minister, however, announced that if they do not agree for this package, the government was ready to give back their land.
