Vijaya Bapineedu, director of Gang Leader, passes away

Vijaya Bapineedu, one of the directors who shaped up megastar Chiranjeevi’s career, has died. He was 83. He was suffering from illness long time. 

Starting his career as editor of Vijaya, monthly magazine, the Eluru born filmmaker stepped into film industry as producer.

He had produced films with Chiranjeevi in the early stages of his career. From “Patnam Vacchina Prativratalu” to “Bigg Boss”, he had directed and produced many hits with Chiranjeevi. “Gang Leader” was biggest hit in Chiru’s career in the 1990’s which was directed by Vijaya Bapineedu.

Before producing films with Megastar, he had produced more than 12 films with other stars and newcomers. 

He turned as director with Chiranjeevi starrer “Maga Maharaju” and went on directing other hits like “Mahanagarmalo Mayagadu”, “Mgadheerudu”, “Hero” and “Khaidi No.786”.

He also made films with Sobhan Babu, Superstar Krishna and Rajendra Prasad but he was mostly known as Chiranjeevi’s producer and director in the industry.

Altogether he had directed 25 films and produced more than 40 movies.
