Fans expected Varun Tej to star in mass masala movies given his height and physique.
However, Varun Tej decided to try something different from the formula right from the word go.
His Mukunda is a very different romance film with political backdrop where the hero and heroine never talk with each other despite being in love.
Next was Kanche, a critically acclaimed war-romance that won him accolades.
Loafer was an attempt that went horribly wrong, but Varun’s characterization proved that he is against run of the mill stuff.
Mister is the only pucca commercial film that Varun has attempted until this point. The film ended up as a huge debacle putting him under severe pressure.
Thankfully, Fidaa was already on the sets by then and he didn’t have any time for regrets.
He went ahead with the movie as he believed in Kammula’s vision. His persistence finally paid off and got the first blockbuster of his career.
Varun is not trying to use this success to achieve mass following by doing a masala film now.
Varun’s next is directed by a debutant Venky and the actor is still in look out for different and challenging scripts.
Doing mass masala movies may bring early success but it becomes pretty hard to continue the momentum with such films.
Story-rich films on the other hand will gradually increase the range of an actor and yield long lasting benefits. Good going Varun!
