After kicking up a lot of controversy for a few days, nothing much is now being heard about the much-talked about film of maverick director Ram Gopal Varma on legendary actor and former chief minister N T Rama Rao.
Though Varma declared that the story of his film “Lakshmi’s NTR” would focus on NTR’s widow Nandamuri Lakshmi Parvathi and that it would begin with her entry into the life of NTR and end with his death, the actual script is said to be still not ready, forget about finalising the cast and crew.
However, sources said Varma’s script would be largely based on the book on NTR, titled Telugu Tejam, written by Lakshmi Parvathi herself.
The book also includes a brief background of Lakhsmi Parvathi, including her first marriage with Harikatha artiste Veeragandham Venkata Subba Rao against her wishes, how she turned spiritual after divorcing him and under what circumstances she had to marry NTR.
She told a television channel in an interview that there were large scale rumours against NTR after he married her.
"There were reports in a section of media that the TDP would collapse since he had married me. There was a propaganda that people, especially womenfolk, were angry with NTR for marrying me and they did not accept me as his wife.
"Initially, I did not understand as to who was planting these stories in the media and used to feel very bad. But NTR did not care for the media. Later, I came to know that it was NTR’s son-in-law N Chandrababu Naidu who was the brain behind these reports," she said.
Lakshmi Parvathi recalled that Naidu had the ambition of becoming the chief minister much before NTR came to power again in 1994.
“These are facts and I have mentioned all these in the book on NTR,” she said.
Sources say Lakshmi Parvathi’s revelations form the major part of Varma’s film, since it is being made in her perspective.
