O’Romeo, starring Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri, released over the Valentine’s Day weekend and opened to a lukewarm response on Day 1.
Amid the mixed buzz, the film’s audience ratings and reviews on BookMyShow have reportedly been disabled following a court order.
Visitors to the film’s BookMyShow page can no longer see audience scores or reviews. Instead, a note reads, “Reviews and ratings disabled as per court order.”
The page still shows interest levels; over 100,000 users at the time of writing; making this the first known instance of a Hindi film moving court to remove public reviews and ratings from an online ticketing platform.
The development has sparked debate online. While some believe the move is aimed at curbing negative word of mouth and review bombing, others argue the film may have been targeted by a coordinated negative PR campaign.
Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, headed by Sajid Nadiadwala, is yet to issue an official statement.
Despite the controversy, O’Romeo has shown solid box-office momentum.
The film collected ₹23.51 crore nett in India over its first two days, opening with over ₹9 crore on Friday and registering a strong 61% growth on Day 2, emerging as a preferred Valentine’s Day watch across circuits.
Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, O’Romeo is based on Hussain Zaidi’s novel Mafia Queens of Mumbai and draws from the life of gangster Hussain Ustara.
The ensemble cast includes Randeep Hooda, Nana Patekar, Avinash Tiwary, Disha Patani, Farida Jalal, and Tamannaah Bhatia.
Set in the 1990s against Mumbai’s underworld, the film blends romance with action and gangster drama, marking Shahid Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj’s fourth collaboration after Kaminey, Haider, and Rangoon.
