I-T raids on MMM continue: 'Pushpa' target?

Sleuths of Income Tax department continued the raids on Telugu film production house – Mythri Movie Makers (MMM), for the second consecutive day on Thursday and reportedly seized several documents pertaining to Goods and Services Tax.

According to sources, the I-T department authorities have conducted searches on the premises of MMM at Road No. 25, Jubilee Hills, on the suspicion that the company resorted to underplaying of revenues from “Pushpa: The Rise” movie directed by Sukumar and starring Allu Arjun.

The department also detected several irregularities in filing of GST returns and seized documents to this effect. However, the MMM promoters -- Yerneni Naveen and Yalamanchili Ravi Shankar.

The searches which went on for more than 12 hours on Wednesday, were still continuing on Thursday as well. The IT sleuths also conducted raids in the house of Sukumar for the second consecutive day.

The I-T department authorities locked the gates of the MMM office and didn’t allow anybody to enter the premises. They are also said to be questioning the source of funding for the sequel of Pushpa, which has been titled as Pushpa: The Rule.

Industry sources, however, said such searches are very common in the film industry, as the Income Tax department focusses on big budget films and tries to ensure that there is no evasion of tax.

“Nothing will come out of such raids. The department will only find out whether there are any payments in black,” an industry source said.
