Dassera: No Celebration for Buyers

Dassera: No Celebration for Buyers

Sankranthi 2017 saw big money at the box-office. The festival made nearly Rs 200 cr share from three films. Rarely do all the films make money when pitted against each other.

This year, Sankranthi not only brought joy to Chiranjeevi, Balakrishna and Sharwanand, but it left the distributors flush with cash.

"Khaidi No 150", "Gautamiputra Satkarni", "Shatamanam Bhavati"... all three Sankranthi films turned out to be blockbusters.

So, the industry expected similar result this Dassera season, but it turned out to be a damp squib. This year, NTR's "Jai Lava Kusa", Mahesh Babu's "Spyder" and Sharwanand's "Mahanubhavudu" hit the screens.

NTR's "Jai Lava Kusa" became an average runner and "Spyder" is a flop. While the distributors of JLK will not be losing much money, those of Spyder will be losing more.

Sharwanand’s “Mahanubhavudu” has ended up being a safe bet. The film will be making profits by the end of its first week run. Although “Mahanubhavudu” will not be considered as a huge blockbuster, it is definitely a hit.

All in all, Dassera festival didn’t bring much satisfaction to Tollywood trade.
