Tweet Review: 'Cheliyaa', first day, first show

Apart from OK Bangaram, none of Mani Ratnam’s recent movies were impressive. In OK Bangaram the legendary director has shown some flashes of his past brilliance.

With it he has once again proved that he is at his best when dealing with the subject of romance.

Mani Ratnam’s Cheliyaa that is releasing today also falls in this genre. Promos of the film didn’t give much of a clue about the plot.

Chemistry between Karthi and Aditi Rao Hydari appears too good and should be the driving factor of the film.

Aided by A R Rahman’s music and stunning visuals Cheliya is the only notable release during this weekend. So many little known dubbed and straight films are releasing today but all eyes will be glued to Cheliya.

Can the legendary director weave his magic yet again and give us one more memorable movie in Cheliya?

Greatandhra brings to you the Cheliyaa experience and all the excitement of this gripping fare live via tweet review.

Mani Ratnam's Cheliyaa. U. 140 min. The film is set in the time of Kargil in 1999.

Movie begins with Kargil war in 1999.

An Indian pilot's (Karthi) plane lands in Pakistan as he plane is attacked. He is imprisoned in Rawalpindi.

As the hero recalls his past love story , heroine is introduced with "Maimarupa" song.

Heroine's name is Leela Abraham, a doctor in Srinagar.

Movie is progressing in Srinagar.

How Varun (Karthi) and Dr.Leela (Aditi) met and fell in love is being narrated.

Visuals are stunning but sequences are progressing on rather slow pace.

Now time for "Hamsaro" song. First full-length song in the movie. Song is peppy and is shot beautifully.

Another song. "Morettukochindi". Wedding song. Hero Karthi's brother is getting married to his pregnant lover.

Karthi successfully escapes from Pakistan prison and comes back to Kashmir. On the other hand, difference have popped up between Karthi and Aditi (in flashback love story). Interval bang.

Post interval, Karthi is trying again win the love of Aditi. The movie is still being narrated in flashback.

Song of "Maimarupa" is being played again. Shot in cassic Mani Ratnam's style.

And story comes back to the present.

In flashback story again....the on and off relationship between Karthi and Aditi is being narrated.
Slow drama is happening.
Now story comes to present: Karthi and his fellow Indian army men trying to escape from Pakistan to Kashmir. Huge chase sequence.

Movie heading towards climax.
