Tollywood 2016 - Quarterly Report

The first three months of this year have been pretty good for Telugu cinema industry. There is not much of a difference in the success rate, but the trend clearly indicates that film lovers are in mood to encourage good cinema.

Telugu cinema audience used to turn down concept films and movies that didn’t have commercial elements. That is certainly changing now.

Films like Kshanam and Oopiri have been appreciated by the audience. A classy film like Nannaku Prematho nearly did 50 crore business. However none can overpower the capabilities of a pure commercial cinema.

Soggade Chinni Nayana was released along with three other movies for Sankranthi and went on to become a blockbuster.

Soggade Chinni Nayana made on a budget of 15 crore has nearly collected 50 crore from its theatrical business itself. Express Raja makers too have hit a jackpot as the film managed to survive the competition.

Sankranthi release Dictator failed to withstand the competition and ended up as a flop.

Krishnagadi Veera Prema Gadha got rave reviews but couldn’t repeat the magic of Bhale Bhale Magadivoy. Seetamma Andalu Ramayya Sitralu has put an end to Raj Tarun’s success streak. So did Lachimdeviki O Lekkundi for Lavanya Tripathi.

Despite being criticized for its vulgar content, Guntur Talkies fared well at the box office and Terror couldn’t conquer the BO in spite of glowing reviews.

Kalyana Vaibhogame is one of the good films to come out in the first quarter. It has performed well at the ticket window too.

Nara Rohit’s hunt for a hit is still on as two out of two of his movies were rejected by the audience.

Second quarter of this year is going to be crucial for Tollywood this year as many big ticket movies are queuing up for release.

Sardaar Gabbar Singh, Sarrainodu, Brahmotsavam, A Aa and few other notable releases like Premam, Babu Bangaram and Supreme are all slated for release in April and May.

Let us wish most of these movies turn out to be money spinners to make it a memorable year for Tollywood.
