“Everyone should donate at least a brick for the construction of the new capital,” said Chandrababu Naidu.
This statement was necessitated owing to the financial crunch the government found itself in following the bifurcation of the State.
But when a person is facing a financial crisis, does he curtail his expenditure or go on a lavish spending spree?
On the one hand, Naidu is asking the people of Andhra Pradesh to make sacrifices for the State and on the other, his Ministers are splurging money in the name of review meetings.
An article carried out in the ‘Times of India’ reported that ‘Health’ Minister, Kamineni Srinivas Rao held a review meeting with 30 officials at a star hotel in the city.
Similarly, social welfare minister Ravela Kishore Babu held a review meeting in another star hotel three days ago with senior officials.
Ironically, Kamineni Srinivas Rao has set up his camp office at the NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada. The conference hall in the University with a seating capacity of 50 was renovated recently for his use at a cost of Rs 30 lakh.
Also, the state government spent nearly Rs 22 lakh during the district collectors' conference in a star hotel in Vijayawada in July.
Ministers and officials drew sharp criticism when they occupied star hotels in Visakhapatnam during cyclone Hudhud review works.
What this means is that people are expected to sacrifice even their daily food for the new State, but Naidu and his team will continue to enjoy ‘biryani’.
