For once, Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu outsmarted his Telangana counterpart K Chandrasekhar Rao in according grand felicitation to Olympics silver medallist and badminton player P V Sindhu and her mentor Pullela Gopichand.
Naidu seems to have taken every care to ensure that the reception given to Sindhu in Vijayawada was much better than what she got in Hyderabad.
The arrangements at Indira Priyadarshini stadium were comparatively outstanding. If there were cultural programmes by Perini troupe at Balayogi stadium in Hyderabad, it was Sivamani’s drums that enthralled the audiences at Vijayawada, mostly school and college students.
The TDP leaders, particularly, local MLA Bonda Uma made every attempt to project Sindhu, Gopichand and their family members as locals of Vijayawada. The banner put up on the stage also described Sindhu as “Andhra Pradesh Muddi Bidda.”
And Naidu, forgetting his protocol, attended the felicitation function to prove that he is better than KCR who sent his son KTR to felicitate Sindhu. He also played badminton with Sindhu on the stage much to the delight of the audiences.
The AP chief minister asked Gopichand to shift his base to Amarvati, since the government would allocate land to it in the new capital city of Amaravati.
