At a time when reports from the ground zero are indicating that the works on multi-purpose Polavaram project have not been going on at the required pace, the members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Water Resources who visited the project site on Friday expressed satisfaction over the progress of works.
All the committee members did was to see the project model and the view point. They were planning to inspect the works from close quarters, but could not do it because of the heavy rains. They just went round the area, where the contractors put up a big show as if the works are going on at full pace braving heavy rains.
The nine-member committee headed by Union minister Hukum Singh expressed confidence that the Polavaram project would commence its functioning as per schedule, making Andhra Pradesh a state with surplus water reserves by the year 2019.
Sources say what the officials of the Naidu government did was to take the committee along the Pattiseema area along the Polavaram left canal, where water is being lifted and pumped into the canal.
They told the committee members that the government had achieved it in a record time and since the canal systems are ready, the project would be completed once the head works are taken up.
Most of the time, the panel spent on Pattiseema and the Union minister showered praises on Naidu!
