On Monday, TRS president KCR's daughter and Nizamabad MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha presented a helmet to her brother IT Minister KTR as a Rakhi gift, as part of her online campaign “Gift A Helmet This Rakhi” - which she launched a few days ago to promote wearing of helmets by two- wheelers to avoid road accidents.
Well, first of all, on the Raksha Bandhan day, sisters tie rachis to brothers and the latter present gifts to the former. But here, Kavitha presented helmet as gift to her brother KTR in front of cameras.
Secondly, KTR doesn’t own any two wheeler and there are no instances of KTR riding a two-wheeler. So, presentation of a helmet to KTR is of no use.
So, it is very obvious that the whole exercise of Kavitha presenting helmet to KTR and sending the pictures to media along with a press release was just a publicity stunt.
In fact, the campaign of Kavitha itself is believed to be an attempt to garner publicity through effective use of social media.
These days, a helmet costs not less than Rs 1,000. If Kavitha is really interested in promoting usage of helmets, she should take initiative in making an appeal to the helmet manufacturers to reduce the cost of helmets and also the government to reduce the tax on helmets. That would have made some sense!
