Anushka’s Bhaagamathie was supposed to release for Sankranthi, but the makers pulled it out due to heavy competition.
The film is now scheduled for release for Republic Day weekend. With Agnyaathavaasi turning out to be a mega dud, there is scope for another biggie to cash in on the Sankranthi season.
Although Balakrishna’s Jai Simha is hitting the marquee today, it doesn’t have the potential to make the most of the festive season.
A hit film of Balakrishna can collect somewhere around Rs. 40 to Rs. 50 crore. But Telugu cinema can make Rs. 150 crore in Sankranthi week itself. So there is definitely scope for another biggie or a reasonable mid range film at the moment.
UV Creations might not have thought that Agnyaathavaasi would backfire to this extent. Bhaagamathie might have done wonders if it was released for Sankranthi as Anushka proved to be a great crowd puller.
Her Arundhati was released for Sankranthi and turned out to be one of the biggest hits of that year.
After making merry for two Sankranthis in a row with multiple hits, Tollywood trade will now have to settle down for under par Sankranthi due to lack of potential films.
However, this is golden opportunity for films like Gang and Rangula Ratnam as they can strike gold with good word of mouth.
