Dil Raju who scored back to back blockbusters with Satamanam Bhavati and Nenu Local early this year has released the Telugu version of Mani Ratnam’s Kaatru Veliyidai.
He had reportedly invested Rs. 7.5 crore in it as he believed that it could be another sensational movie like Roja from the legendary director.
Dil Raju is a big fan of Mani Ratnam that he had distributed many of his movies in Nizam in the past.
He also released the director’s previous film OK Bangaram that fared decently at the box office. He confidently invested Rs. 7.5 crore on Cheliya and recovered Rs. 1.5 crore through the satellite rights.
Dil Raju should recover Rs. 6 crore and publicity expenses from the theatricals to break even, but Cheliya opened to disastrous talk all over.
The film failed to record decent openings too. It will be extremely difficult for Dil Raju to recover his investment with Cheliya failing to impress the regular audience. He is likely to incur minor losses on it says the trade.
