2016 Roundup: Top 5 Disasters of Tollywood

1) Brahmotsavam: The film rode on high expectations as Mahesh and Srikanth Addala teamed up again after a classic like Seetamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu.

It looked like a complete family entertainer from the outset and buyers went berserk in buying off the distribution rights.

The film needed to collect over 80 crore share from the theatricals to be termed as a hit. But it ended up as a monumental disaster and only collected somewhere around 33 crore share. It is not only the biggest disaster of the year, but also the biggest ever flop in Tollywood history.

2) Sardaar Gabbar Singh: Pawan Kalyan’s fans heaved a sigh of relief to see Brahmotsavam take the top place in all time disasters list as Sardaar has set a benchmark for flop movies with over 30 crore loss for the distributors.

Unprecedented craze on the movie ensured record breaking opening for Sardaar, but it went crashing down from the second day itself.

It eventually collected 50 crore share, but ended up as a disaster. This is the only flop movie in history to make it to the 50 crore club.

3) Speedunnodu: Buyers believed that Alludu Seenu fame Bellamkonda Srinivas is not a one film wonder. They invested big bucks in to the film by trusting the instincts of Bellamkonda Suresh and Bheemaneni Srinivasa Rao.

But Speedunnodu turned out to be a washout at the box office as most of the buyers couldn’t even recover the prints and publicity costs.

4) Thikka: Sai Dharam Tej seemed to be the safest bet among the mid range heroes as all of his previous films except Rey have given minimum guarantee returns to the buyers.

SDT, who has been making smart choices until Supreme did a blunder by accepting a film like Thikka. It was a nightmarish experience for its viewers and also its buyers. It is also the badly rated movie among the top billed films of the year.

5) Krishnashtami: Who would think that an ace producer like Dil Raju can make a rubbish film like Krishnashtami? Coming from Dil Raju’s banner and having Sunil in the lead role, Krishnashtami was expected to be an average fare at the least, but it ended up as a huge flop.

Dil Raju immediately disowned the film and didn’t even make an attempt to promote it once the public verdict is out.
