Women have long been arguing for the implementation of the 'women's reservation bill' in Parliament. Their contention is that women are as equally capable as men in holding public offices and being in government. Their claim is absolutely justified.
Women have as much ability as men if not more. If one were to look at the recent events and one year of Modi’s governance, the major source of embarrassment to the BJP have been women.
Sporting traditional Indian saris, with large bindis, Smriti Irani and Sushma Swaraj look the quintessential Indian women. Yet, their actions have seriously embarrassed the BJP government.
Then we have the super- rich Vasundhara Raje, also shaming the BJP with her act. Vasundhara gave a statement to the UK authorities on condition that it would not be revealed to India.
And then there is Pankaja Munde, Maharashtra Minister for Women and Child Welfare Development. She has been accused by the Opposition of a Rs 200 crore scam. She awarded tenders for Rs 200 crore without any auctioning at all and violating all rules.
“There were no violations of rules," said Munde, who is currently in the US, adding that a policy for an online tendering system was not in place when she commissioned the deals.
"As minister I have taken some dynamic decisions to reduce corruption," she said. The opposition says that on February 13, she pushed through as many as 24 contracts with vendors, including some with close links to her family.
Munde's father, Gopinath, who died in June 2014, was one of the BJP's most popular leaders in Maharashtra.
"I promised my father I would always do the best for my people," she said in a statement thereby evoking emotions in the public.
And who can forget Sadhvi Prachi and the damage her remarks have been doing to the BJP? The RSS is led by bachelors and yet they magnanimously encourage women in the BJP and give them prestigious responsibilities. And look what they are doing in return. They have proved that they are as capable as men when it comes to corruption.
Therefore, the women’s reservation bill should be passed immediately without any further delay.
