While Girija Oak is a familiar name in Marathi theatre and cinema, she has also made notable appearances in Hindi films and shows such as Taare Zameen Par, Ladies Special, Shor in the City, Jawan, and Inspector Zende.
The internet can’t get enough of the “blue-saree woman.”
Curiosity turned into admiration as users flooded social media with praise for her charm and performance.
“Who’s this in the blue saree? Seen her trending — drop the name if you know!” wrote one user on X.

Girija Oak is indeed one of the most respected names in Marathi cinema, known for her performances in films like Gulmohar, Lajja, and Navra Maza Bhavra, as well as the Kannada film House Full.
In Bollywood, she won hearts as Jabeen in Aamir Khan’s Taare Zameen Par (2007), appeared in Shor in the City (2010), and shared screen space with Shah Rukh Khan in Jawan (2023).
On television, she played one of the leads in Ladies Special, a show revolving around four women who commute together on Mumbai’s Ladies Special local train.
Girija Oak Reacts to the Viral Fame
Girija Oak says her phone hasn’t stopped buzzing since Sunday.
“I’m amused! I was in rehearsals for my play and couldn’t take calls,” she told Hindustan Times.
However, she also noted that some social media accounts had tried to “sexualize” her viral moment.
“Suddenly, my friends started messaging me, asking if I knew what was happening on X. One sent me a post debating if it was Priya Bapat or me! Then my devar told me that some cheap handles had picked up my pictures, turning it into a ‘bhabhi lover’ trend. Some pages sexualized me. But Marathi fans proudly said, ‘You’ve just discovered her! We’ve known her for years,’” she said.
Girija Oak acknowledged that internet trends come and go — but she’s content that people are finally discovering her work.
“The work I do is here to stay. If people are finding my performances now, that makes me happy,” she added.
The actress also recently made headlines for speaking about how safe and respected she felt while filming intimate scenes with Gulshan Devaiah for her upcoming series Therapy Sherapy.
