Those who go to Visakhapatnam regularly would know that “Jagadamba Centre” has almost become synonymous with the steel city. The centre has become popular with the presence of Jagadamba theatres in the area for the last more than three decades. Though a lot of shopping malls, theatres and hotels have come up in the area, the locals would know any other name than the Jagadamba Centre to call the area. A Telugu film was also made by that name.
Now, the same Jagadama Centre has become the most hated name in Visakhapatnam. There is a great demand from the people, particularly womenfolk, to change the name of the locality; for the owners of Jagadamba – Rambabu and his son – had cheated several women by indulging in polygamy. They are saying that the father and son had brought very bad name to the city and there is no question of keeping their name to such a famous area. They staged a dharna in front of Vizag collectorate demanding that the Jagadamba Centre name be changed.
