Dinesh Karthik’s last ball six against Bangladesh, the one that helped us bag the Nidahas Trophy, sent social media into a frenzy.
Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Mohammad Kaif, Virender Sehwag, VVS Laxman and coach Ravi Shastri were among those who led the applause for Karthik. However, a post from Indian Test opener Murali Vijay made his followers cringe.
Vijay congratulated the entire Indian team but didn’t mention a word about Karthik’s innings in his rather general message. There’s, of course, a background to Karthik and Vijay’s bitter relationship.
Once close friends, Karthik and Vijay stay away from each other these days. Karthik’s ex-wife Nikita is now married to Vijay – their relationship was once talked about in hushed tones but not anymore.
Karthik moved on, finding love with squash player Dipika Pallikal. The two got married in 2015 and are one of the most glamorous sports couples in the country.
Just what would happen if Karthik and Vijay were to bat together for India is anybody’s guess.
