Why Was Media Not Allowed Into Assembly?

The denial of permission to media to enter the Andhra Pradesh assembly premises at the interim secretariat complex at Velagapudi to inspect the rain water leakages in various chambers came as a big surprise.

If there were no damages in any part of the assembly except in leader of opposition Y S Jaganmohan Reddy’s chambers, which could be a conspiracy as felt by Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao, then one wonders why the media was not allowed to enter the complex and bring to light the facts.

The fact that media was barred from entering the assembly confirms the suspicion that there was something fishy and more damage could have occurred.

On Wednesday morning, the Opposition YSRCP MLAs sat on a dharna near the assembly gate in protest against denial of entry to media.

They pointed out that some portions of walls collapsed and roof has been leaking inside the assembly at many places including the chamber of Jaganmohan Reddy.

“It is very clear that the government had compromised on the quality of construction of the assembly,” the YSRC MLAs said.

They alleged that media is not allowed only because to bury the truth and the government didn’t want people to know the true colours of the assembly after few rains.

“If there is no media inspection, the TDP MLAs might say the Opposition party is making baseless allegations. Hence, the government should allow media,” they said.
