TDP or BJP: Byreddy is in a dilemma!

Former MLA and prominent Rayalaseema leader Byreddy Rajasekhar Reddy who wound up his political party Rayalaseema Parirakshana Samithi a couple of days ago, is now in a dilemma as to where he should go.

While declaring his decision to wind up the RPS at a meeting of his followers, Byreddy hinted at joining the ruling Telugu Desam Party.

Majority of his followers at the meeting suggested that he should join the TDP and they would all follow him. There was also a talk that Byreddy, who had held discussions with senior actor and TDP MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna and other senior TDP leaders about joining the TDP, also lobbied for the MLC seat.

However, Byreddy is learnt to be facing stiff resistance from the other TDP leaders in the district including Tourism Minister Akhila Priya, MLC N M D Farookh who is being nominated for the Legislative Council chairman, former minister K E Prabhakar and Bhuma Nagireddy’s close associate A V Subba Reddy.

Apparently, they are apprehensive that Byreddy, who has a very bad faction background, would create troubles for them in the TDP.

In the meantime, Byreddy has also kept the other options open for him. He is understood to have consulted former Union minister and BJP Mahila wing leader Daggubati Purandeshwari and the latter reportedly invited him to join the BJP.

But one wonders how far it would help Byreddy, as the BJP hardly has any base in Kurnool and secondly, it still continues to remain an ally of the TDP. So, even if he joins the BJP, he has to be at the mercy of the TDP in the seat sharing.

So, the ball is in TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu’s court. If he says okay, Byreddy will join the TDP sooner or later.
